Walter Dunn's brother John Patrick Dunn married Theresa Hodges (for whom Theresa Dunn, later Mrs. Edward Chadwick, was named) and later Sarah Blount. One of his homes was Lafayette located northeast of Kinston on RR 1722. Lafayette and Monticello, not far away, were built by Lewis Whitfield. 1843-1921 - Record Book of St. Mary's Parish, Kinston, NC (Pg 2-3) Resolved that Elder Ways Biddle and his associate brethren Elder John P. Dunn and his associate brethren of the Baptist Denomination and the Revd. Saml. Pierce and his asociate (sic) ? Brethren of the Methodist church be requested and they are hereby respectfully solicited to make regular appointments for the purpose of holding from time to time, divine worship in Saint Mary's Church in the town of Kinston, provided nevertheless, that such appointments do not conflict with any appointment of any Episcopal Minister, who shall in all cases, have priority of occupancy. 1853 - Council & Matilda Hooten Deed to John P. Dunn

1853 - Church of Christ, Kinston - Church erected a Chapel at the corner of Gordon and Heritage streets, on the banks of the Neuse River. The first preaching was done by John P. Dunn, Wm. Rhem and Robert Bond. The membership at Kinston grew from the evangelistic meetings held by John P. Dunn and others at Little Sister. North Carolina Disciples of Christ

1 Dec 1859 - The Kinston American Advocate comes to us in mourning for the death of Elder John P. Dunn, who died on the 17th ult. He was much loved and respected by all who knew him. North Carolina Argus
