Matthew Casey Deed to Newman Potts, 1855

This Indenture made the twenty eighth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five between Matthew Casey of the first part and Newman Potts of the second part all of the county of Wayne and state of North Carolina.

Witnesseth that the said Matthew Casey for and in consideration of the sum of eighty dollars to him in hand paid by the said Newman Potts at & before the execution of these presents the receipt & payment whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold and by these presents doth bargain sell alien promise & convey unto the said Newman Potts his heirs & assigns forever, all of one certain tract or parcel of land, situated lying & being in the aforesaid county of Wayne on the south side of the north prong of Sleepy creek bounded as follows, beginning at a pine Hatch Whitfields corner & runs north 30 poles to a blackgum at the run of said creek, then up said run as it meanders to another corner made in said creek 16 poles north of said Potts old corner on a gum then south 16 poles to a stake Potts corner then east 178 poles to the beginning containing twenty five acres, more or less, to have & to hold the above bargained premises with all & singular the privileges & commodities to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining and I the said Matthew Casey do by these presents obligate & bind myself my heirs, executors & administrators to warrant & ever defend the right & title to the above bargained premises unto the said Newman Potts his heirs & asigns free & clear of all claims & demands of myself my heirs, executors administrators & every other person or persons whatever.
