Alice Stevens was the daughter of William and Mildred Stevens Sr. of Sampson County, NC as shown in his estate papers. Her will mentions mother Mildred, brother Charles and sister Sukey Herring indicating they were likely William's children by his second wife Mildred since none of William's other children are in the will.


Will of 20 Oct 1802, Sampson County, NC

I lend to my beloved mother Mildred Stevens my Negro woman Edy, my Negro boy Aleck, my Negro girl Isbel and my Negro girl Mary during her natural life.

To my beloved sister Sukey Herring all my wearing apparel.

The said Negros lent my mother at her death, Edy, Aleck, Isbel and Mary and their increase to the children of my brother Charles Stevens and to the children of my sister Sukey Herring, one half to ones children and the other half to the other ones.

Appoint my brother Charles Stevens Executor and my mother Mildred Stevens Executor.
